Stoke v Tottenham - Match preview and team news

Bookmark and Share

By James McLean

Sunday 12 May 2013

Stoke host Tottenham on Sunday afternoon with both clubs still hoping to aid their seasonal targets with a win.

Britannia Stadium

Stoke can secure their Premier League survival if they can beat Andre Villas-Boas’ men at the Britannia Stadium, and put themselves one game away from securing a Premier League best overhaul of 47 points should they be able to win their last game too.

Spurs, meanwhile, can seldom afford a slip up in their chase for Champions League qualification. They currently sit fifth, a single point behind North London rivals Arsenal, and sit six points adrift of third place Chelsea – meaning that every point is likely to prove vital.

Glenn Whelan is still struggling with the groin problem which kept him from participating in the Potters’ draw at Sunderland, and so Dean Whitehead is expected to keep his place in the starting lineup. Defenders Marc Wilson and Andy Wilkinson are also doubtful, but will be assessed prior to kick off.

Spurs see Mousa Dembele return to selection availability after missing the draw against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge owing to a hamstring problem. Gylfi Sigurdsson hopes that his goalscoring appearance midweek will be enough to earn him a place in the starting 11.
