Everton and Newcastle race to sign Aubameyang

Everton have joined the race to sign St Etienne striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, according to The Mirror.

Aubameyang is also a target for fellow Premier League club Newcastle, with Russian outfit Anzhi Makhachkala keen on the striker as well.

A bidding war looks set to ensue, and this could spell bad news for either of the Premier League clubs, with Anzhi known for their big spending in recent years.

However, should Everton baulk at Man United’s pursuit of Leighton Baines they may just have the cash readily available to chase the Russians and hopefully land Aubameyang themselves.

The 24-year-old has expressed a desire to play in the Premier League, and both the Toffees and the Geordies hope that this desire will help gain them some leverage in negotiations ahead of the Russians.

The striker would likely set either club back a minimum of £15m, but remains keen to move to England, implying that Everton have perhaps not only joined the race, but moved to the head of the queue of his admirers.
