Liverpool agree Spearing sale to Blackburn
Liverpool have agreed a fee to sell midfielder Jay Spearing to Blackburn Rovers, the Daily Mirror has reported, but the transfer has been delayed as the Championship club identify the funds for the deal.
The price for Spearing is said to be £1.5m and Rovers were banking on the £2.5m sale of Martin Olsson to Norwich City to pay for the signing, but Olsson’s switch to the Canaries has been held up as the player and club agree personal terms. The alternative is for Blackburn’s owners, Venky’s, to pay for Spearing themselves.
Blackburn are looking for a player to replace Danny Murphy, who left Ewood Park this summer despite having a year remaining on his contract. Murphy, 36, made 35 appearances for Rovers, having previously played almost 250 games for Liverpool. Spearing, meanwhile, is a graduate of the Liverpool academy but spent last season on loan at Bolton Wanderers, making 39 appearances for the Trotters. He has played 55 times for the Reds without scoring.
