Jovetic ready for Man City move despite late Man Utd offer
Manchester City are close to signing Fiorentina forward Stevan Jovetic, the Daily Mirror has reported, despite a late attempt by Manchester United to send the Montenegro international to Old Trafford.
City have agreed a fee of £28m for the 23-year-old, who was also on the radar of Arsenal, Chelsea and Juventus, but Manuel Pellegrini identified Jovetic as the player he wanted to boost the forward ranks at the Etihad Stadium. Jovetic has been offered a five-year contract worth £80,000 per week after talks between his agent, Fali Ramadani, and City’s sporting director Txiki Begiristain on Wednesday evening.
David Moyes however tried to usurp City in the battle for Jovetic with an 11th hour move and while Ramadani has told City the deal won’t be complete until he hears what United have to offer, Fiorentina’s good relationship with City suggests they will win his signature in the end, the newspaper claims.
City and Fiorentina previously did business on the transfer of Stefan Savic to Florence, while Matija Nastasic moved the other way. Jovetic initially wanted to remain in Italy but Fiorentina refused to sell to Juventus, their long-standing rivals, and now Jovetic has warmed to the idea of playing under Pellegrini at Eastlands.
