Barcelona tell Man United that Fabregas is not for sale

Man United have again been told by Barcelona that Cesc Fabregas is not for sale, according to BBC Sport.

Cesc Fabregas

The Spanish club have said they would not sell the former Arsenal captain “for any price”, and are especially against the thought of selling another midfielder following Thiago Alcantara’s departure to Bayern Munich earlier this summer. Alcantara had also been heavily linked with a move to United.

David Moyes confirmed earlier this week that United were “still interested” in Fabregas – a comment which sparked suggestions that a fresh bid could be on the horizon.

Arsenal have first refusal on Fabregas should United somehow tempt Barcelona with a huge offer, but it is now believed that the 26-year-old would favour a move to Old Trafford and link up with former Gunners team-mate Robin van Persie, who joined United from Arsenal during the 2012 summer transfer window.

Barcelona vice-president Josep Maria Bartomeu has insisted, however, that Fabregas is going nowhere. He said: “United's interest for Cesc Fabregas is obvious, he's a great player but it does not bother us. It does not matter what they offer us, we are not selling him.”

Bartomeu, who was speaking at the first press conference of new Barcelona coach Gerardo Martino, continued: “I'm not going to involve myself in the club's accounts, but considering the club has already rejected two offers, I would guess it will reject a third.

“In other words, Fabregas will remain here. If there was a higher offer would we accept it? No. We're proud that a club like that wants one of our players.”

Fabregas has rarely featured in his preferred midfield role since joining Barcelona in 2011, with Xavi and Andres Iniesta usually preferred. He has made 96 appearances for Barcelona since returning to his boyhood club from Arsenal.
