Liverpool seal loan move for Valencia left-back Cissokho
Liverpool have agreed a deal with Valencia to bring left-back Aly Cissokho to Anfield on a season-long loan, according to the Daily Mail, after their hopes of signing Granada’s Guilherme Siqueira were ended.
Brendan Rodgers’ side were thought to be battling rivals Everton for Siqueira, as the Northern Irishman looks to provide competition for current first-choice left-back Jose Enrique. However, the Reds failed to agree a deal, with Real Madrid also said to be chasing the Brazilian.
Cissokho becomes Liverpool’s fifth summer signing, after goalkeeper Simon Mignolet, centre-back Kolo Toure, winger Luis Alberto, and striker Iago Aspas. The once capped French international joined Valencia last summer from Lyon, and made 36 appearances for the club last season, and scored two goals.
Rodgers is also continuing in his pursuit of a marquee signing this summer, as he looks to boost the club’s chances of making the Champions League. The Mail adds that the Reds are hoping to sign Brazilian playmaker Willian from Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala, with negotiations ongoing. The 25-year-old only joined Anzhi in January, from Shakhtar Donetsk.
