Crystal Palace vs Tottenham - Match preview and team news
Newly promoted Crystal Palace kick off their top flight campaign against a Tottenham side hoping to go one better and finish in the Champions League places this time around.
Since losing talisman Wilfred Zaha to Manchester United, manager Ian Holloway has added no less than seven players to his ranks, most notably Spain Under 20 international Jose Campana and Moroccan forward Marouane Chamakh. With Holloway wanting to play slick passing football it will be interesting to see how the Selhurst Park outfit fare compared to his last crack at the Premier League with Blackpool.
In comparison Tottenham will be hoping their star man Gareth Bale doesn’t depart for Real Madrid. With Andre Villas-Boas twice breaking the club’s transfer record this summer already the Portuguese boss will want to build a team around the flying Welshman to push for that all important fourth place finish.
Crystal Palace will have to make do without influential striker Glenn Murray who remains on the side lines along with Jerome Thomas and Yannick Bolasie. As Palace have done their transfer business early, with the exception of Thomas, all their signings are eligible for the opening fixture.
Tottenham will be missing Bale with the player still nursing a foot injury that has hindered his pre-season. They will also have to make do without pivotal defender Jan Vertonghen who was injured during pre-season. Sandro and Younes Kaboul both made their return from lengthy spells on the sidelines in the final game of pre-season and can be considered for the trip across London.
