Mourinho thanks fans but wants focus on Chelsea team
Jose Mourinho has thanked the Chelsea supporters for the rousing welcome he was given prior to the club’s Premier League win over Hull, Sky Sports has reported, but the manager now wants the fans to focus their backing on the players.
The victory over the newly-promoted Tigers marked Mourinho’s first appearance in the Stamford Bridge dugout since returning to the manager’s post at the end of last season, and while he was appreciative of the warm reception he received, he feels it is the players that should be the centre of attention going forward.
“It was fantastic, it is something you don't forget,” Mourinho said. “It makes me think I made the right move by coming back - I am one of them, so I am so pleased and so happy.
“But I think it is enough. I need my team to be supported. I need them to sing my players' names, I need them to push Chelsea all the way. Enough Mourinho and come on Chelsea,” the former Real Madrid boss added.
Mourinho oversaw a 2-0 win for Chelsea, the goals coming courtesy of Oscar and Frank Lampard, who also had a penalty saved. Lampard was one of three players to feature against Hull having also played in Mourinho’s first game in charge of his first spell, along with goalkeeper Petr Cech and captain and centre-back John Terry.
“I know they love me, that is one of the reasons why I am back,” Mourinho revealed, “But now it is my time to work for them and for them to support the team.”
