No new bids for Baines or Fellaini, reveals Everton boss Martinez
Everton manager Roberto Martinez has said the club have not received any new offers for Leighton Baines or Marouane Fellaini, Sky Sports reported.
Baines and Fellaini were the subjects of a joint bid from Manchester United, a £28m approach rejected by Goodison Park officials - who described the money on offer as “insulting and derisory”. And Martinez has revealed United - nor any other potentially interested Martinez - have yet to follow up with a new bid.
“Everything has been quiet on that front,” Martinez said. “Everything has been as we have informed our fans. I think that is the way we are going to deal with the window now.
“We are still trying to be as strong as we can. If there is anything we need to inform our fans, we will do. But now the focus has to be the games.”
Martinez went on to say that football’s decision-makers need to examine whether or not the transfer window is having a detrimental effect on the game, with the former Wigan boss feeling that the window is distorting the league and harming the players.
“I have said it time after time, it's time for the football authorities to look into the situation. I think the transfer window is getting out of hand and really affecting the values of the league. I think it is affecting the human side of the players in a very, very unfair manner,” Martinez said.
“It's about time that we stopped the window or we stopped the official games in the middle of the window.”
