Rooney can join Chelsea if Man Utd can find a replacement
Manchester United will allow striker Wayne Rooney to join Chelsea this summer, but only if they can secure a suitable replacement, according to the Daily Mirror.
Chelsea have targeted the unsettled Rooney throughout the summer and have already had two bids rejected. Manager Jose Mourinho has said that they will make another bid before the transfer deadline on September 2, but any deal is unlikely before Man Utd and Chelsea meet at Old Trafford on Monday.
Red Devils boss David Moyes has been intending to play Rooney in an attacking midfield role behind main striker Robin van Persie, but he has been forced to chase a new signing.
Marouane Fellaini, whom Moyes managed at Everton, is a target to fill that position, but a £28m joint bid for the Belgian, and teammate Leighton Baines was turned down by the Toffees on Monday, and described as ‘derisory and insulting’.
Moyes is preparing an improved offer for the duo, but his frustration with the saga concerning Rooney has been made clear to Chelsea, who are reportedly only willing to pay up to £30m for the England star.
