Pellegrini pleased with aggressive Man City
Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has called on his team to maintain the aggressive approach they displayed when opening their Premier League campaign with a 4-0 win over Newcastle, Sky Sports has reported.
City next face newly-promoted Cardiff in the Welsh club’s first home game of the league campaign and Pellegrini wants to see his players live up to the high standards set in thrashing Newcastle. Goals from David Silva, Sergio Aguero, Yaya Toure and Samir Nasri gave City the win over 10-man Newcastle.
“I think we played in the way I want my team to play. It is an aggressive team,” Pellegrini said. “During the game, we were scoring goals and not playing depending on whether we were winning or losing.
“We tried to play 90-minute football. I am sure the players are enjoying this way and we will try to continue. It was just one match but it is very important to continue this way and at the end of the season, we will see who has won the title,” the former Malaga boss said.
Pellegrini has a question mark over his defence for the trip to Wales, however, with captain Vincent Kompany struggling with the groin injury suffered against Newcastle. Kompany is unlikely to play, meaning Joleon Lescott will be partnered by either midfielder Javi Garcia or Dedryck Boyata.
