Bale misses Tottenham training as frustration grows over Madrid move
With his proposed move to Real Madrid still yet to be confirmed, Tottenham Hotspur winger Gareth Bale’s frustration is increasing after the deal was further delayed during the weekend.
While the £86m deal for Bale was expected to be finalised on Tuesday, the Daily Mail has reported that the Welsh international was told to report for training as normal, but failed to do so. The transfer was cast into some doubt on Monday after rumours emerged that another club had made a bid to sign Bale.
Reports in Spain, however, suggest that the deal with Real Madrid is still close to being done, with Bale set to be unveiled on Wednesday, according to the Spanish Daily Marca. Other sources say that the 24-year-old might still make his debut against Athletic Bilbao this weekend.
Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has reportedly agreed to sell Bale, but will not allow the deal to go through before a replacement can be secured. Andre Villas-Boas’ side were about to sign Brazilian playmaker Willian, from Anzhi Makhachkala, but for Chelsea to hijack the transfer at the weekend.
Erik Lamela, Roma’s 21-year-old winger, is the player that Tottenham have now turned their attentions to. The Argentine scored 15 goals in 36 appearances last season for the Italian side.
