Arsenal forward Podolski facing three weeks out
Arsene Wenger will be without Germany forward Lukas Podolski for three weeks after Podolski suffered a hamstring injury during Arsenal’s Champions League win over Fenerbahce, the Daily Mail has reported.
Podolski had to be substituted after picking up the injury in the first minute of the second-half of the Gunners’ 2-0 win on the night, with both goals coming from Aaron Ramsey. The victory completed a 5-0 aggregate rout of the Turkish team after a 3-0 away win in Istanbul.
Wenger said after the match: “We paid a heavy price on the injury front because we lost Podolski. Podolski's definitely out for 21 days.” And Podolski is not the only injury concern for Wenger coming out of the fixture as Ramsey had to depart the game early with a groin problem, leaving Arsenal with 10 men for the final few minutes, while Jack Wilshere limped away from a succession of heavy challenges from Fener players.
“I don't know how bad Ramsey is,” Wenger added. “I don't know how Wilshere responds. We have to check that tomorrow morning. The two tackles on Wilshere were disappointing, but he looks all right. Jack should be all right for Sunday.
“I'm hopeful on Aaron as well. I took him off with three or four minutes to go, but I don't know how bad it is. He wanted to stay on.”
Wenger also revealed he wanted to substitute Wilshere with 10 minutes to go but the England international insisted on remaining on the field, with Wenger concerned as lengthy injuries for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Mikel Arteta have already severely limited his midfield options.
