Tottenham waiting on Lamela before confirming Bale exit
Tottenham Hotspur will only sanction Gareth Bale’s move to Real Madrid once they have wrapped up the transfer of Roma forward Erik Lamela, the Daily Telegraph has reported. And in turn, Roma will only allow Lamela to move to the Premier League club once they have captured Fiorentina’s Adem Ljajic.
Spurs will pay around £30m for Lamela, but Roma will not allow the Argentina international to leave until they have Ljaijc signed and sealed. There is also a theory growing in support that Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy will delay Bale’s move to Real Madrid in order to prevent Arsenal signing either Mesut Ozil or Angel Di Maria, the Madrid players who will be allowed to leave when Bale joins, in time for either player to feature for the Gunners against Spurs on Sunday.
The deal between Tottenham and Madrid has essentially been agreed, the newspaper adds, but was put on hold when Chelsea snatched Willian away from White Hart Lane. Lamela is Willian’s replacement and was an unused substitute during Roma’s Serie A first round win over Livorno.
Lamela has been a Roma player since 2011, moving to the Italian capital from River Plate, where he began his career. The 21-year-old has made 66 appearances for Roma, scoring 21 times, having made 34 appearances for River Plate. He has also won a handful of caps for Argentina.
