Chelsea hope to have Eto'o signed this week
Chelsea are confident of completing a move to sign Anzhi Makhachkala striker Samuel Eto’o this week, the Daily Mail has reported, with the former Real Madrid, Barcelona and Inter player to join as part of the deal that brings Willian to Stamford Bridge.
Eto’o will sign an initial one-year contract with Chelsea as part of Willian’s £32m move from Russia, and will reunite with Jose Mourinho after the pair enjoyed a trophy-laden spell at Inter between 2009 and 2011, winning the Serie A title and the Champions League.
The 32-year-old Cameroon international was brought to European football by Madrid but made only a handful of appearances for the club, spending most of his time at Mallorca, where he scored 69 goals in 165 games. From there he was allowed to join Barcelona and went on to net 129 times in 209 appearances, moving to Inter as part of the deal that took Zlatan Ibrahimovic to Camp Nou.
Eto’o joined Anzhi in August 2011 but is to leave the club after the club’s owner withdrew funding. Eto’o has also won more than 100 caps for his country, scoring over 50 goals.
