Newcastle take striker chase back to Ba and Gomis
Newcastle have turned their attention back to striking duo Bafetmibi Gomis and Demba Ba. Lyon forward Gomis was the source of interest earlier in the summer for Alan Pardew and now it is claimed that the Magpies are one of three Premier League clubs to be keen on Ba.
ESPN are reporting that the St James’s Park outfit are desperate to bolster their attacking options after failing to score in both of their opening Premier League matches this season.
The club’s previous interest in Gomis was ended after negotiations stalled following a successful £7m bid. Gomis, 28, has become restless in France and has refused to sign a contract extension with Lyon despite being in the last year of his current deal. Chelsea striker Ba has also emerged as a Pardew target.
The Senegalese striker was a St James’s smash and could be ready for a shock return to the North East. The re-introduction of Jose Mourinho at Stamford Bridge has seen Ba’s first opportunities dry up, prompting Newcastle to offer the 28-year-old a temporary escape route with a loan move.
