New Man City signing Demichelis faces six weeks out
Manchester City have been dealt another major setback in defence, after new signing Martin Demichelis suffered a knee injury during training, and will now be out of action for six weeks, the
Daily Mail has reported.
Former Bayern Munich player Demichelis became Manuel Pellegrini’s fifth signing as Man City manager at the weekend, after only having been at Atletico Madrid for two months without making an appearance. The 32-year-old, who Pellegrini managed for two years at Malaga, was brought in as an extra option in central defence, where City are already struggling with injury.
Captain Vincent Kompany remains on the sidelines after sustaining a groin injury in the club’s opening Premier League game against Newcastle, while Matija Nastasic has only just returned after damaging knee ligaments during pre-season.
The Argentine’s problems, although they do not require surgery, leaves Man City with just Nastasic and Joleon Lescott as their only fit central defenders, with Kompany looking set to miss their next league match away to Stoke City on September 14.
