Barkley gave England a lift, says Everton teammate Jagielka
England defender Phil Jagielka has claimed that he feels his international and Everton teammate Ross Barkley is not aware of how good he is. Barkley made his full international bow when he came on as a substitute in England’s 4-0 win against Moldova at Wembley on Friday night.
Sky Sports are reporting that Jagielka believes that this will be the first of many international appearances for the young midfielder. “He has being playing well for Everton and that’s why he got the call up. And to be honest when the gaffer brought him on I think it gave all of us a little lift,” Jagielka said. Barkley has now played at every level for the Three Lions.
The 19-year-old has earned a regular place in the first team at Goodison Park this season after a couple of loan spells and injuries had hindered his progress. In 2012 he was loaned out to Sheffield Wednesday where he made 13 appearances scoring, four times. He also had a spell at Leeds and has played 16 times for Everton, scoring his only goal for the Toffees on the opening day in a 2-2 draw with Norwich.
