Sunderland manager Di Canio backed by Baresi
Tuesday 10 September 2013
Franco Baresi has backed his former Milan teammate Paolo Di Canio to be a hit in management, according to The Journal.
The ex-Italy international has revealed his belief that the Sunderland boss has the credentials to be a successful Premier League manager, and told the North East paper that while the he didn’t think Di Canio would go into management after his playing career, he feels it could work well.
The Black Cats manager has been under fire recently with the local and national press revelling in his passionate press conferences and interviews, the latest of which has seen him slate his players after they went down 3-1 in a behind-closed-doors friendly against the club’s Under-21 side. Di Canio also spoke openly of his disappointment with his players after their 3-1 defeat to Crystal Palace last week.
Baresi was speaking ahead of lining up with Di Canio as part of a Milan XI at Newcastle’s St James’ Park in the testimonial for former Magpies goalkeeper Steve Harper on Wednesday evening.
