Newcastle boss Pardew wants more consistency from Ben Arfa
Alan Pardew has challenged winger Hatem Ben Arfa to become more consistent and produce match-winning performances on a regular basis for Newcastle United, Sky Sports has reported.
Ben Arfa scored a fine winner in Newcastle’s Premier League victory over Fulham before the international break for the club’s first league goal of the season. And Pardew believes a bit more consistency can help the 26-year-old contend for place in the French national starting XI, along with becoming one of the Premier League’s star players.
The former West Ham boss said: “That's what we are searching for with Hatem, a little bit more consistency in terms of him winning games, whether it's an assist or a goal. He has fantastic quality. He is a player the fans love and he certainly got everybody out of their seats the last time.
“But we need a little bit more than that, more from him, more of those moments. I think he would be the first to admit that that's the year he needs if he is going to break into the French team.”
Ben Arfa joined Newcastle from Marseille in the summer of 2010, and has gone on to score 12 goals in 60 appearances in all competitions. He also has 13 caps for his country.
