Arsenal’s Flamini wants to end career at Marseille
Mathieu Flamini, who has just returned to Arsenal after five years away, has warned the club that he wants to finish his playing career at Marseille, the Metro has reported.
Flamini began his career at the Stade Velodrome, making 23 appearances before joining Arsenal as a 20-year-old in 2004. He remained in North London until 2008, but has now returned to the club on free transfer after spending five years at Milan. He made his first start of his second Gunners spell in Saturday’s 3-1 win at Sunderland.
The Frenchman’s contract at Arsenal runs until the summer of 2015, but when asked about the possibility of returning to Marseille in the future, he said: ‘You should never say never. I did my apprenticeship there. Of course it’s the club of my heart.
‘I’ve always stayed close to it, because I’m in contact with Jose Anigo, someone who knows me very well. There has never been anything concrete and I have some good years ahead of me.’
