Ozil praised from all sides after Arsenal debut
Mesut Ozil has been praised by his Arsenal teammates, manager Arsene Wenger and his Sunderland counterpart, Paolo Di Canio, after starring on debut in the Gunners' Premier League win over the Black Cats, the Daily Mirror has reported.
Ozil created the opening goal of the 3-1 win when he teed up Olivier Giroud in the first-half and impressed throughout, playing 80 minutes of the victory. The Germany international, signed on transfer deadline day for a club record fee, also created a number of chances for Theo Walcott and was heavily involved in Arsenal’s third goal, scored by Aaron Ramsey, one of two for the Wales midfielder.
Di Canio asked after the match if Ozil had been wearing magic boots, adding: “ He was lucky, every touch was good! We will all have to check, they were like a glove. He is a rather good player,” while Ramsey said: “You saw what Mesut is all about with those lovely, telling through balls to set people up one-on-one with the keeper.
“That’s why he is top of the assist charts around Europe. He is an unbelievable talent and -hopefully that is just the start from him. The timing of the pass is everything. He has a wonder of a left foot and the way he strokes the ball means the passes he delivers always seem to be perfectly weighted right into players’ strides.”
Wenger, meanwhile, said: “You have seen some great players in the Premier League and it is very difficult to judge someone after one game. But he is a great player and there is a lot more to come from him, when he gets used to the contact. He told me after the game that he’d enjoyed it.”
