Torres not unsettled by Eto'o's arrival at Chelsea
Chelsea striker Fernando Torres has insisted that the club’s decision to sign Samuel Eto’o from Anzhi Makhachkala to provide competition in attack has not unsettled him, the London Evening Standard has reported.
After being signed in the final days of the transfer window, Eto’o was preferred to Torres in Jose Mourinho’s team selection for Saturday’s defeat to Everton, despite having taken part in few training sessions with the Blues. Torres, meanwhile, after scoring in the European Super Cup, had remained at Chelsea throughout the international break due to being left out of the Spain squad for their World Cup qualifier in Finland.
But despite playing second fiddle to Eto’o at Goodison Park, Torres has welcomed the competition and as has said that the pair are ‘friends’. He declared: “There is now more competition up front but Demba, Samuel and me are not enemies, we are friends. We are team-mates and are fighting for the same targets. I think it’s really good for the team.
“Eto’o is one of the best strikers I have ever seen. I played against him in Spain many times and you can see the record he had there with Real Mallorca and Barcelona, as well as in Inter. I am sure he is going to really enjoy this period of his career with Chelsea. He is training really well, I wish him all the best and will help him in every way that I can.”
