Liverpool’s Coutinho to be out for six weeks
Wednesday 18 September 2013
Liverpool playmaker Philippe Coutinho will be out of action until the end of October after injuring his shoulder during Monday’s 2-2 draw at Swansea City, Sky Sports has reported.
The Brazilian was taken off 10 minutes into the second half at the Liberty Stadium, after clutching his shoulder following a collision with Swans captain Ashley Williams. He is now set to miss Premier League encounters with Southampton, Sunderland, Crystal Palace, Newcastle United and West Bromwich Albion, as well as the Reds’ Capital One Cup second round tie at Manchester United.
This comes as a major setback to Brendan Rodgers’ side, who currently top the Premier League, although the blow could be softened by the impending return of Luis Suarez, who has just one game left of his 10-match ban for biting Chelsea’s Branislav Ivanovic.
Since joining from Inter during the January transfer window, Coutinho has shown impressive form, scoring three goals in eight appearances and contributing eight assists. The sidelining of Coutinho adds to a succession of injuries sustained by Liverpool players in recent weeks, with Glen Johnson, Aly Cissokho, Joe Allen and Sebastian Coates also out of action.
