Newcastle vs Hull - Premier League preview and team news
Saturday 21 September 2013
Newcastle will be hoping to continue their new surge in form as they welcome a Hull City side who have made a steady start to life back in the top flight.
Alan Pardew has seen his struggling side put together back to back wins, putting their wobbly start behind them. It can be no coincidence that the new streak of confidence has coincided with the superb form of Hatem Ben Arfa and the return of Yohan Cabaye. Cabaye has apologised to fans for his behavior during the transfer window and all has been forgiven after being restored to the starting XI. Ben Arfa says he wants to target the Ballon D’or - while some may question his realistic chances, it can only be a positive for Newcastle fans he is setting high targets for himself.
Hull have taken four points from four games so far – all in all a satisfactory start for Steve Bruce and his men. Positive performances against two of the top four, while picking up points from their other games could prove the building blocks for their relegation battle. They face another tough away trip, and Bruce will be hoping boyhood Newcastle fan Danny Graham will choose this weekend to end his worrying goal drought.
Steven Taylor picked up a hamstring injury in training and will miss out, as will Shola Ameobi who was injured on international duty and Jonas Gutierrez remains injured. Gabriel Obertan and Mike Williamson will have their fitness assessed.
Maynor Figueroa has been granted compassionate leave and will miss the trip, as will Robert Koren, foot, and Paul McShane, who sustained a knock. Yannick Sagbo will return after completing his suspension.
