West Brom vs Sunderland - Premier League preview and team news
Saturday 21 September 2013
The bottom two clubs meet this weekend with West Brom taking on Sunderland at the Hawthorns.
Steve Clark’s men have seen a polar opposite to the start made last season. However the club has seen a busy transfer window and new with new personnel finally confirmed, he can work on gelling them together. Stephane Sessegnon has had his work permit granted and will surely come into the side to ease the pressure on the Baggies flagging front line. An anticipated debut against his former employers will no doubt fire up the Benin international further.
Sunderland were one of the busiest clubs this summer and it has shown in their opening performances. Di Canio cut a figure of frustration last time out and has been punished for his behavior accordingly. It may be too early to suggest he is feeling the pressure of his first Premier League adventure but he certainly hasn’t had it all his own way. One point from four games will not impress the Black Cat’s demanding fan base, and keeping the fans on side will be another tough test for the Italian as he continues to find his best settled starting XI.
Ben Foster is still sidelined with a foot problem, while Shane Long and Matej Vydra are doubts with hamstring problems. Steven Reid has a knock and will be checked.
Sunderland welcome back John O’Shea from suspension while Lee Cattermole could feature for the first time this season after making the trip. Wes Brown and Phil Bardsley definitely miss out.
