Wenger backs Arsenal for title challenge
Saturday 21 September 2013
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has insisted that his side are genuine Premier League title contenders, reports ESPN.
The Gunners have won their last six matches in all competitions, since their opening day defeat to Aston Villa, and currently sit second in the Premier League behind Liverpool, and level with north London rivals Tottenham.
Wenger, who has seen pressure from fans lift since the big-money signing of Mesut Ozil from Real Madrid, believes that his side have the potential to take the title this term:
"I believe we have a chance and what is most important is that my full energy is to make sure we grab that chance. It is too early to say who will be in the fight, who will not be in the fight.
"You are a bit cautious because these days you are very quickly in a crisis. One bad result and everyone questions your potential to be in there, so let's be consistent. We know the four or five teams who will fight for the title, we know the names."
Arsenal host Stoke City on Sunday, having won one and lost one of their home games so far this season.
Lukas Podolski and Santi Cazorla are set to miss out through injury, along with Abou Diaby and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain. Mikel Arteta is making good progress but will also miss out.
