Wenger lines up two more Germany internationals as latest Arsenal arrivals
Arsene Wenger wants to sign Germany pair Marco Reus and Julian Draxler, the Daily Express has reported, to add to the growing colony of German internationals at the Emirates Stadium that already includes Per Mertesacker, Mesut Ozil and Lukas Podolski.
It has been claimed by the Italian media that Wenger considered a move for Schalke’s Draxler over the summer but was put off by the £34m asking price. Juventus are now said to be interested, however, and would not flinch at meeting the selling club’s demands. Draxler meanwhile confirmed he had the chance to leave Schalke this summer but rejected the opportunity out of concern for how the switch could affect his form prior to the World Cup next summer.
Reus, meanwhile, would cost a similar amount due to the buyout clause in his contract and the newspaper claims Wenger has around £30m remaining in his transfer kitty even after the club record purchase of Ozil, who moved to the capital for more than £42m.
Wenger may wait until next summer to move for Reus, the Express adds, especially as the Borussia Dortmund playmaker would be ineligible for the Champions League if Wenger was to be successful in a post-Christmas approach.
