Arsenal must win 'big games' to win title, says Carragher
Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has said that in order to be seen as realistic Premier League title contenders, Arsenal must start winning the ‘big games’ away from home, Sky Sports.
Arsenal have failed to win the Premier League since 2004 but are currently sitting top of the table after five games. After losing the opening game at home to Aston Villa, Arsene Wenger’s side have since gone on to win seven consecutive games in all competitions, with domestic wins coming against Fulham, Tottenham, Sunderland and Stoke City.
However, following their victory over the Potters on Sunday, Carragher said: “They're playing very well at the moment, they're top of the league and that's exactly where you want to be.
“The Aston Villa result seems a long time ago now and they've come on leaps and bounds since then. But there are a lot of big games to come and they will need to prove themselves in them. Once they start mixing it with the big teams and beating them away from home - that's when I think we'll see if Arsenal have a real chance of winning the title.
“I never really fancy Arsenal in the big games, especially away from home. They go to go to Old Trafford in a couple of weeks - let's have a look at them again then. If they lose that game, I'm not saying it's over, or they're finished, but I'd like them to go and start winning bigger, more important games.”
Last season, Arsenal struggled against the teams around them. Despite finishing fourth, they only won one match against the other sides in the top six - a 5-2 triumph over Tottenham.
