Tottenham can win Europa League, believes Lamela
Tottenham Hotspur’s new record signing, Erik Lamela, says that his new club are among the favourites to win this season’s Europa League, the Daily Mirror
The £30m fee paid by Tottenham to sign Lamela from Roma eclipsed the £26m that they forked out to Valencia for striker Roberto Soldado earlier in the summer, but the Argentine has been made to wait for a first league start, with his only appearances that were not from the bench coming in the Europa League and the Capital One Cup.
And the 21-year-old believes that winning the Europa League is a realistic target for Tottenham, who currently lie second in the Premier League. He said: “Tottenham are a big ¬European club so it is normal that we are one of the main candidates for the Europa League title.
“The squad is big and we are able to fight in both the Europa League and Premier League. The Europa League is the second-most important trophy for clubs in Europe and many players want to win it in their careers. Nobody in Spurs would snub this trophy and our minimum challenge is to reach the final.”
Lamela also said that he was still adapting to life in London. He added: “I am still adapting to London life, but England was always a country that ¬interested me. That is on a personal level and at Spurs I am working to be one of first the names in the starting XI. That is my big objective.”
