Nasri and Richards offer support to Man City teammate Hart
Manchester City pair Samir Nasri and Micah Richards have insisted Joe Hart will come through the patch of rocky form that saw his mistakes contribute to a heavy Champions League defeat by Bayern Munich, Sky Sports has reported.
Nasri, when asked to name the world’s top goalkeepers, included Hart in his list and Richards, one of Hart’s closest friends at the club, insisted the England international had the strength of character to avoid letting his critics get to him.
“I think it's (Manuel) Neuer, Joe Hart and maybe Hugo Lloris, because I play with him in the national team, then (Gianluigi) Buffon too,” Nasri said when picking his top custodians in world football. “(Iker) Casillas doesn't play anymore but for me Joe is in the world's top five, easily,” Nasri continued. “I am not worried about him. For the first time in a long time England have a world-class goalkeeper.”
Hart failed to stop Franck Ribery’s goal for the Champions League holders despite getting a hand to the ball, and was later beaten by Arjen Robben at his near post as City crashed to a 3-1 home defeat against Pep Guardiola’s side. “I think that when you are a top player like Joe, you don't have problems with confidence,” Nasri added. “Sometimes you can have a rough patch but he knows everyone is behind him at the club.”
Richards took up the theme, saying: “Me and Joe are very close and we all make mistakes. He will bounce back because he is a strong character. He is not to blame for the result, the team were not good enough in all areas. He will bounce back.”
The defender insisted that Hart remains the best goalkeeper available to England manager Roy Hodgson. “He is still England's best keeper. I know we have some real good talents but he is definitely the best,” Richards said, adding: “He knows he could have done better with the first, but he will get over it.”
