Week 7 Premier League - Top 5 players to watch
Ahead of the weekend’s Premier League fixtures, here is a look at the top five players to keep your eye on.
The Belgian striker has made a marvellous start to his season’s loan at Everton, having been allowed to move by Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho to the surprise of many. After scoring the winner against West Ham United, he claimed two goals and an assist in a man of the match display as Roberto Martinez’ side defeated Newcastle United.
On Saturday, Lukaku will be looking to torment a Manchester City defence that has looked vulnerable in recent weeks. His physical strength should lead to an interesting battle between he and Man City’s central defensive pairing, and he also faces a goalkeeper with plenty to prove in Joe Hart.
Despite the victory in Manchester derby, Silva has been a big miss for Manchester City since injuring himself on international duty. He returned to action as a substitute during Wednesday’s humbling Champions League defeat to Bayern Munich and the difference showed as he was central to Man City’s late rally.
On Saturday he will be up against an experienced Everton defence, but his passing ability will keep them busy and should prove key to the outcome of the game.
The Arsenal forward has begun the new season in fine form, scoring four Premier League goals, which have helped the Gunners to the top of the table. With service coming from the likes of Mesut Ozil, Giroud has the ability to continue that run at West Bromwich Albion, and it will be interesting to see how he fares against Jonas Olsson and Gareth McAuley as he looks to continue his goalscoring run.
He may have been on the losing side on both occasions, but the Frenchman has played well in his first two games for Newcastle United since joining on loan from Queens Park Rangers. Three goals in two games has seen Remy continue his impressive scoring record in his nine months in England, and he has proven himself to be a superb finisher.
Remy looks set to be a key man for Alan Pardew this season, helping to ease the burden on Papiss Cisse, and should he get a chance against Cardiff City on Saturday, there is a good chance that he will take it.
The Tottenham playmaker has made an exceptionally good start in English football, given Andre Villas-Boas’ side the creative spark that they perhaps needed. West Ham United are likely to come to White Hart Lane with a fairly defensive set-up, so Tottenham will be looking to Eriksen to provide the penetration they need to see off the Hammers.
