Man Utd concern over Fellaini wrist injury
Marouane Fellaini could require surgery on a wrist injury, the Guardian has reported, with the Manchester United midfielder potentially absent for games past the forthcoming international window.
Fellaini, United’s only major summer signing in a £27.5m move from Everton, will see a specialist on Monday before he travels to the Belgium training camp head of the national team’s matches with Croatia, to be played in Croatia, and Wales, at home.
A Belgium win over Croatia would seal top spot in Group A and progress to Brazil 2014, while a point would also deliver qualification. Currently only two European nations - the Netherlands and Italy - have guaranteed their place in South America, out of 10 teams, including the hosts, to be sure of a spot in the tournament.
United were without Fellaini for the 2-1 win over Sunderland and the 25-year-old has made only league start for the Premier League champions since his move from Goodison Park. Fellaini has featured from the off twice in the Champions League and did make four appearances for Everton prior to moving to Old Trafford. In total, he played 177 times for the Toffees in five years, scoring 33 goals.
