Lukaku aiming to prove himself to Chelsea boss Mourinho during Everton loan
Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku, currently on a season-long loan at Everton, is aiming to prove his ability to Blues manager Jose Mourinho during his spell at Goodison Park, ITV Sport has reported.
Lukaku has made his mark quickly for Roberto Martinez’s side, scoring four goals in three games and earning considerable praise for his performances, whereas the remaining strikers at Chelsea - Demba Ba, Samuel Eto’o and Fernando Torres - have yet to open their account in the Premier League this season.
Lukaku spent last season on loan at West Bromwich Albion, where he scored 17 league goals. Indeed, he has made very few appearances for his parent club, with just 15 - and only four from the start - since joining in the summer of 2011.
And the 20-year-old Belgian has told newspaper Het Nieuwsblad that he aims to score more than the other Chelsea strikers during his season at Everton. He said: “The coach decides and as a player you have to respect that. I chose to leave and it's up to me to prove the coach wrong.
“The only thing I can do is play well and score a lot. And then I think people will say that I'm a good player. I want to score more goals than the strikers of Chelsea. We will see at the end of the season who made the best choice.”
