Man Utd the right place for Januzaj, says Carrick
Michael Carrick has said that Adnan Januzaj is in the right place at Manchester United, after the youngster grabbed all the headlines after United’s 2-1 win over Sunderland on Saturday, the Daily Telegraph has reported.
Januzaj, 18, scored a quick-fire double to win United the game at the Stadium of Light on his full debut, with United a goal down after five minutes.
Carrick, who has made 330 appearances for the Red Devils, is aware of Januzaj’s rising expectations. “It is a lot for a young lad to take to come in like that. The attention he is going to get now will be a lot,” the England international said.
“He is young, he is going to learn along the way and learn fast. I am sure he will be fine. Young lads can come in and change. Their life can change overnight and the expectations and pressures change. There are more responsibilities.
“But he is at the right place and he has a good attitude. He is going to stay on the right lines. I and the other experienced players are there to set an example and do the right things.
Januzaj has sparked up debate over his nationality since impressing for United on Saturday, with the Belgian-born midfielder rejecting the opportunity to play for Belgium at different age groups.
There is a possibility of Januzaj playing for England just in time for the 2018 World Cup, but he would need to apply for a British passport and not play competitively for any other country.
England manager Roy Hodgson revealed on Saturday that the Football Association had enquired about the possibility of one day capping the 18-year-old under FIFA’s residency rules, with his club boss David Moyes also confirming the possibility of Januzaj turning out for England had been raised.
