Man City and Man Utd hoping to tempt Iniesta away from Barcelona
Wednesday 16 October 2013
Manchester City and Manchester United will be doing anything in their power to try and tempt Andres Iniesta away from Barcelona as the Catalans try and tie down a new deal with the 29-year-old, writes the Daily Express.
Iniesta has spent his whole career at Barcelona, but a delay in the midfielder signing a new contract has generated fresh rumours of the player moving away from the club. The Manchester sides are keen to stop the new contract of Barcelona by declaring their interest in the Spanish star, but Iniesta has reiterated his love for the club.
“You have to be where you want to be, and Barca is the place for me, Iniesta told Movistar's webpage. “The club knows that and wants me to stay, so I hope and expect to spend the years I have left playing there.”
Iniesta has one of the most respectable trophy collections in history, having won over 20 individual awards throughout his career, including the UEFA Best Player in Europe Award 2012.
The Spain international has also been chosen in the FIFA/FIFPro World XI as well as the UEFA Team of the Year on four occasions: 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012. In recognition of his consistently outstanding performances with club and country, as well as his individual and team achievements, Iniesta received the Marca Legend Award in 2011.
