Arsenal midfielder Ramsey eager to improve form for club and country
Aaron Ramsey believes he can continue to improve for both Arsenal and Wales, Sky Sports has reported, despite recent impressive showings in the Premier League and the final World Cup qualifiers.
Ramsey has grabbed headlines for the Gunners so far this season, scoring on a regular basis, and has been able to carry that form into international duty, netting 10 goals for club and country since the start of the season. He scored for Wales in the 1-1 draw with Belgium on Tuesday, and his domestic performances were rewarded with the September Premier League Player of the Month prize.
But Ramsey feels he can still push on further. “I think there is more to come,” he said. “I'm still only 22, I still need to do better and learn a few more things but the boss (Arsene Wenger) is telling me about that, things like positioning defensively.
“So there's definitely more to come and I'm looking forward to that. When you haven't got the ball, while we're defending - sometimes I am not always where I need to be,” the former Cardiff player admitted. “I need to be playing well, be involved in the game and taking these games by the scruff of the neck and keep doing the things I've been doing.”
Wales manager Chris Coleman was particularly impressed by Ramsey’s form over the international period, claiming Ramsey could play for any country in the world, such is the quality he possess. While Ramsey appreciates the praise of his national team boss, he insists he will keep working to improve.
“” he added. “But I try not to take too much interest and let it affect me. I just try to focus on my own game and what I need to do to improve. I just try to keep on enjoying my football.
“At the back end of last season I noticed a change in myself. I got my confidence back, started playing some good stuff again and that's carried on this year.”
Confidence has been crucial across Arsenal, Ramsey revealed, as Wenger’s side have recovered from an opening day defeat to sit top of the Premier League table, level on points with Liverpool but ahead on goal difference.
“The confidence is flowing throughout the team at Arsenal at the moment,” Ramsey said. “We are top of the league, playing some good stuff and I think all the players are feeling good at the moment. All of us just want to get out there and play as much football as we possibly can at the moment.”
