Wenger expects Ozil to be fit for Arsenal
Arsene Wenger will give Mesut Ozil the chance to prove he is fit to take to the field for Arsenal against Norwich, ESPN has reported, in the Premier League leaders’ first game since the internationals, the second of which saw the Germany playmaker pick up a knock.
Ozil limped out of Germany’s 5-3 win over Sweden on Tuesday evening with a knee injury, but Wenger moved to put any fears to bed by stressing it was nothing serious. There is however doubt over whether or not Ozil will be able to play against the Canaries.
“He is alright,” Wenger said. “He came back with a knock on the knee but it was just a kick. We'll have a test tomorrow to see if he is fit enough for Saturday or not. When you have not played, there is always a little doubt but not a major one.”
Right-back Bacary Sagna will also undergo a fitness test to judge where he is in his recovery from a hamstring injury, while Santi Cazorla could also return, although likely not from the start. “Sagna is 80% fit and he will have a test. Cazorla is available in training but he is not match-fit,” Wenger revealed. “It is just about competitiveness with him. There is a possibility both are in the squad for Saturday. I have not decided whether they will start or not.”
Wenger added that Theo Walcott is still two weeks away from a return to playing, having undergone abdominal surgery in September.
The Gunners are currently top of the league, ahead of Liverpool by virtue of goals scored, with the two sides level on points and goal difference after seven games.
