Nacho Monreal keen to end ‘suffering’ on the bench
Arsenal defender Nacho Monreal has admitted all he can currently do is watch and suffer as he sits on the bench with Kieran ahead in the pecking order, writes Express.
The Spanish left-back has accepted the rivalry of Gibbs in the same position, but admits he can only suffer from the bench while Gibbs is currently fulfilling his chance on the pitch.
"In truth it is a tough moment for me because the manager is choosing Kieran over me, but to be honest he is playing very well. All of the games that he’s played in he has done well, the team is on a good run, and I don’t see things changing in the short-term.
"The moment that Kieran steps off the gas, I will be there to take advantage of the opportunity, and carry on in that way."
Wenger has two players for every position in the Arsenal squad, but believes if the player stops working, you won’t play.
"Logically, to have two quality players for every position, the player in the better form will get to play, and that means that you cannot relax."
Monreal, 27, has made five league appearances for Arsenal this season, but has only had 50 minutes playing time on the pitch.
