Giroud has taken Arsenal opportunity - Wenger
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has admitted that his failed attempts to sign top strikers in the transfer window was lucky for Olivier Giroud, who has taken his chance, writes the Guardian.
Wenger was hopeful Giroud would show some development, but admitted failing to sign his transfer targets was fortunate for the striker: “That was maybe a little bit his luck.
“Nobody came in, so you know at the start of the season that at least you get the chance to show how good you are. I always thought that his second season would be the decisive one.
“We have seen that many times - to adapt to the kind of game we play takes time. I was not too worried when we didn't bring anyone in because I thought he had a chance to develop.”
The Frenchman has played a part in all eight Premier League matches for Arsenal this season, scoring four times. Despite Giroud’s impressive form this campaign, Wenger refused to rule out a January transfer bid. He said: “We are not desperate to sign anyone in January. If there is a good opportunity, then why not?”
The Gunners sit top of the Premier League table having put together an unbeaten run since the opening day defeat to Aston Villa at the Emirates Stadium. Wenger’s side travel to Crystal Palace next in the league, before facing Liverpool and Manchester United consecutively.
