Arsenal midfielder Flamini to miss Dortmund clash
Arsene Wenger has confirmed midfielder Mathieu Flamini will miss Arsenal’s Champions League clash with Borussia Dortmund on Tuesday, reports Sky Sports.
Flamini was brought off during the Premier League tie with Norwich on Saturday following a head injury and Wenger has confirmed the player will not be risked. Wenger confirmed Flamini trained, but will not play a part in the Champions League tie. “Flamini is doing well, has practiced normally, but we will not play him tomorrow,” Wenger said.
“There is a five-days (concussion) rule that we will respect, not to take any chance. It was a concussion and the doctor advised us not to play him. He will be okay for the weekend. I'll leave myself 24 hours until tomorrow afternoon to decide the team.”
Arsenal currently top Group F with six points from their opening two matches, and will continue to lead the group with a win over Dortmund on Tuesday evening.
The opening Champions League match saw the Gunners beat Marseille 2-1, followed by a 2-0 win over Napoli at the Emirates Stadium, but Wenger’s side now face the team who lost 2-1 to Bayern Munich in the final last season.
Wenger admitted the match against Dortmund is not conclusive, but crucial. “On that front it is an important game,” he said. “It's not a decider but it's an important one, an 80% one for me. We know if we win, and we win the other home game, we are there.”
Arsenal go into the game fresh from a 3-1 win over Norwich on Saturday, the Gunners have gone unbeaten in the Premier League following their opening day defeat to Aston Villa.
