Arsenal vs Borussia Dortmund - Match preview and team news
Arsenal will be looking to maintain their 100% record at the top of Champions League Group F when last season’s runners-up, Borussia Dortmund, visit the Emirates Stadium.
The Gunners have been in fantastic form in all competitions. Currently leading the Premier League by two points following Saturday’s 4-1 win over Norwich City, they were especially impressive in the last European match, dismantling Rafael Benitez’ Napoli. The victory at the weekend saw Santi Cazorla to return to play alongside Mesut Ozil, which delivered some very attractive football, which looks set to continue.
However, they were also dealt a blow going into their meeting with the German side as Mathieu Flamini was forced off with concussion, which keeps him out of Tuesday’s game. Since returning to the club in the summer, the Frenchman has been seen by some observers as a more important acquisition than Ozil, due to his work rate and solidity in the midfield.
Dortmund, managed by Jurgen Klopp, represent Arsenal’s biggest test thus far. They have taken three points from their first two games, with a comfortable victory over Marseille coming after defeat in Naples on Match day one. Victory for Arsenal would go a long way to guaranteeing their place in the knockout stages.
Flamini is one of six players missing for Arsene Wenger’s team, with Theo Walcott yet to fully recover from an abdominal problem. Abou Diaby, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Lukas Podolski and Yaya Sanogo are also sidelined.
Captain Sebastian Kehl, along with Lukasz Piszczek and Ilkay Gundogen, is out for Dortmund, although one of their danger-men, Marco Reus, is available after suffering a knock.
