Norwich v Cardiff - Match preview and team news
With just one point separating the two sides, Norwich and Cardiff face off on Saturday knowing a win will put some much needed space between them and the relegation zone.
Norwich boss Chris Hughton is coming under more pressure from the Carrow Road faithful as his side continue to splutter in the league. There is a real sense that the team lack any real cutting edge of late - and it is easy to see why. £13m was spent on duo Ricky van Wolfswinkel and Gary Hooper and they have seen a return of just one league goal so far. Hughton’s side are currently one point better off than this time last season, when they went on to finish 11th and achieve their best finish in 20 years, and he will be quick to point out to doubters that he can turn it around once more.
Malky Mackay on the other hand has the full backing of Cardiff fans, and instead is under pressure from his own boardroom. As his relationship with owner Vincent Tan deteriorating in recent times, a run of losses could spell the end of Mackay’s tenure. And things may not improve this weekend - Cardiff have won just twice at Carrow Road in 22 league attempts. They have also mustered just one clean sheet from their eight league games, allowing the most shots on their goal than any other side, 51.
Striker van Wolfswinkel is to be assessed before kick off following a foot injury, while Johan Elmander is expected to have recovered from a thigh injury and be available for selection.
Craig Noone is missing for Cardiff after being injured in a development squad game on Monday. Andreas Cornelius has returned to training after a long lay off but is not yet fit enough to make the squad.
