Agger rubbishes Liverpool exit reports
Daniel Agger has insisted he will not be leaving Liverpool and is certain of being back in the team again soon, writes Sky Sports.
The 28-year-old is under contract until 2016, but a lack of game time under Brendan Rodgers has sparked speculation surrounding the defender’s future. Reported interest from Barcelona came after Rodgers left out Agger in Liverpool’s previous four games, with Kolo Toure, Martin Skrtel and Mamadou Sakho making up the defence.
Agger tweeted: “Please stop all the tweets about me leaving! I'm not going anywhere! Will be back in the team soon.”
Rodgers believes the current formation suites Skrtel best, and the team will be selected on merit.
“The three at the back plays to his strengths,” said the Northern Irishman. “It allows him to defend and it allows him to simplify things when he has the ball. I think in the run of games he's had he's gained confidence and that's meant I've acknowledged and recognised that he's playing at a really good level.”
Rodgers’ Liverpool are third in the Premier League table after nine games, having only lost to high-flying Southampton this season.
The Reds recorded a 4-1 win against West Brom on Saturday at Anfield, and will travel to the Emirates Stadium this weekend as they take on league-leaders Arsenal. A win for Liverpool would see them leapfrog Arsenal with the potential to go top of the league.
