Zaha set for Man Utd competitive debut
Manchester United youngster Wilfried Zaha could be set to make his competitive debut against Norwich in the Capital One Cup on Tuesday, the Guardian has reported.
The 20-year-old is yet to make a competitive appearance for United since joining last season but could feature in David Moyes’ side against the Canaries at Old Trafford.
Moyes has admitted Zaha may have to leave on loan in January to get some game time as the likes of Luis Nani, Ashley Young and Adnan Januzaj are currently in front of the winger. “I just don't think we have had the right opportunity to get him on as much as we would have liked,” Moyes said.
“We don't want to put him in too quickly,” the manager continued. “We want to make it the right time. I've said I would look at it in January as I wanted to have him here for six months to see how we work.
“I told him we would try to get him minutes but the competition in the wide areas we have with Nani, Antonio Valencia, Ashley Young, Adnan Januzaj and even Shinji Kagawa playing off the side means we are as strong there as anywhere.”
Moyes was quick to reiterate that Zaha is still in his plans, despite the lack of game time. “It's not that Wilf has done anything wrong, it's just that we have big competition and we have to try to make sure he gets some playing time. Unfortunately, we haven't done that with Wilf and if it's still the case in January, we would look at it. But he is very much in my plans and in my thoughts all the time.”
Moyes is set to rotate his squad having fought hard against Stoke City on Saturday after coming from behind twice to win 3-2 at Old Trafford.
Norwich will travel to Manchester on the back of a goalless draw with Cardiff City in the Premier League on the weekend, and sit in the bottom three after nine matches.
