Man City captain Kompany could miss next three games
Wednesday 30 October 2013
Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany is set to miss his side's next three games following a set back in his recovery from a groin injury, ESPN has reported.
The Belgium international has not featured for City since he went off in their 3-1 home win over Everton at the start of October. Reports have circulated that the 27-year-old will miss another week following an aggravation during his personal training session with the medical staff at the club.
The centre-back will certainly miss his side's Capital One Cup fourth round tie at Newcastle on Wednesday evening, and looks unlikely to feature in the league game with Norwich this weekend. The former Hamburg man could make a comeback in their Champions League tie with CSKA Moscow at the Etihad Stadium next week, but only should he return to full training by the beginning of the week.
Manuel Pellegrini's side have had a stuttering start to the season, and the loss of their captain will not please the manager. His side have struggled on the road this season, and the hole left by Kompany will not help a side that has only picked up four points away from home so far this season.
City currently lie seventh in the Premier League and will be looking to bounce back from a last gasp defeat to Chelsea at the weekend when they face Newcastle at St James' Park tonight in the Capital One Cup fourth round.
