Hart set for extended spell on Man City sidelines
Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart is expected again be named as a substitute for the Champions League fixture with CSKA Moscow, Sky Sports has reported.
Hart was dropped for City’s Premier League encounter with Norwich following a mistake against Chelsea the week before that allowed Fernando Torres to score the winning goal of the game, and had to watch on as his City teammates hammered the Canaries 7-0 with Costel Pantilimon in goal instead.
Pantilimon barely had a save to make against the well-beaten visitors and will get another chance to impress against CSKA on Tuesday evening. Manager Manuel Pellegrini claimed Hart is in need of a rest after a series of mistakes while Hart’s teammate Fernandinho backed the England international to return in future.
“If the quality is a bit off you must work harder to recover your position and your best quality,” Fernandinho said. “If he at the moment is not (at his best), he must work harder.
“But they are very good keepers, he and Pantilimon. I think his career will be better for it. The manager must choose the best team, and the best keeper for the team,” the midfielder added.
City are currently second in their Champions League group and could effectively seal qualification with a second straight win over the Russians, having claimed victory in the away tie through a Sergio Aguero brace.
