Kolo Toure believes Liverpool can still challenge for the Premier League title despite losing to Arsenal on Saturday, Sky Sports has reported.

Brendan Rodgers’ Reds were beaten 2-0 by the league-leading Gunners, leaving them five points behind Arsene Wenger’s side. Santi Cazorla and Aaron Ramsey struck at the Emirates Stadium but Toure is not yet convinced by his former side and insists his current employers have as good a chance as anyone of finishing in top spot.

Arsenal are not the title favourites,” Toure said. “The season is long, we all want to be champions,” he added. “This is only November. They will have a hard time as well. The season is not done yet, definitely.

Both Arsenal and Liverpool definitely have what it takes to win the title. Two great teams, with great spirit. Both teams work hard and fight and, even though Liverpool were in a difficult situation, we kept fighting and I think that's really good. Both teams are strong mentally.

Toure added that if Liverpool had been able to call on playmaker Philippe Coutinho for the entire game, the score line may have turned out differently. “When Coutinho came on, the game changed and that showed we have some good players, and we are really strong, he said.

I call him my best player because he is amazing. Coutinho makes the difference,” Toure continued. “In training, he is one of the hardest to mark. When you have a player like that you know you have this magic and people haven't seen that yet. But they will because he is young.

Liverpool are third in the table following the defeat, their second of the league campaign. Rodgers’ side are level on points with second place Chelsea and fourth place Tottenham, the teams sorted by goal difference.
