Fulham vs Tottenham - Premier League preview and team news

Wednesday 04 December 2013

Tottenham Hotspur visit Craven Cottage for what will be Rene Meulensteen’s first game in charge of Fulham, who are three points adrift of safety.

The Cottagers dispensed with the services of Martin Jol on Sunday after two and-a-half years in charge, following an alarming run of six straight defeats in league and cup, during which they conceded 18 and scored just five. Meulensteen spent 11 years at a coach at Manchester United, but owner Shahid Khan’s decision to hand the 49-year-old the manager’s job looks risky, as he has never managed in any of Europe’s top leagues.

Tottenham boss Andre Villas-Boas has himself come under pressure in recent weeks after four games without a win. They did respond well on Sunday to the mauling at Manchester City, deservedly holding Manchester United in what was arguably their best performance of the season so far, with only two avoidable goals preventing them from triumphing over the champions.

Fulham welcome back defender Sascha Riether for this London derby, after the German completed a three-match ban. Dimitar Berbatov and Brede Hangeland could also return, but Hugo Rodallega is out.

The visitors have doubts over Emmanuel Adebayor, who has a groin problem, while Christian Eriksen, Harry Kane and Danny Rose are all definitely out.
