Manchester United striker Robin van Persie looks set to return to action in Wednesday's clash at Old Trafford against Everton, the Express has reported.

Robin van Persie

The Dutch striker has been missing from the United side since he scored the winner in his side's 1-0 victory over Arsenal on 10th November with a groin injury. His manager has confirmed though that the former Arsenal man is in line for a return against the Toffees, saying: "Robin is OK. He has a chance of playing."

The meeting signals the first time that manager David Moyes has faced his old club since taking the reins with the Red Devils in the summer, and the Scotsman says he isn't surprised to see his old side doing so well this time around under new manager Roberto Martinez: "He is doing a very good job. He has very good players there. I always told them they could play without a manager because they are very well organised. But Roberto is doing a really good job keeping it going."

Moyes added: "Everton were a great club for me ... they were fabulous to me. Overall we had a good level of consistency, finished well in the division."

However the 50-year-old remains unsure about the reception he will receive from his old club's supporters saying: "It could be a mixed reaction at times (from the Everton supporters) tomorrow night. The Everton fans understand their football and I think they'll understand I brought in a lot of good players there."

Moyes endured a rocky start to his career at Old Trafford having taken over the post following Sir Alex Ferguson's retirement but is gradually getting to terms with the job with the side currently on a 12-game unbeaten run.

Although United trail leaders Arsenal by nine points at this early stage, Moyes remains positive about the remainder of the season.

"The job is to keep (this unbeaten period) going, keep winning and keep on a good run of form. We've done that, but as I've repeated myself many times, we let in a late goal at Cardiff which turned what would have been a really good week into one that wasn't quite as good as we would have liked. But we still drew two games and won one last week. We'd like that to be a better ratio but nevertheless it's not a bad one either."

United occupy eight place in the Premier League table whilst visitors Everton sit in fifth position as the two teams meet at Old Trafford on Wednesday evening.
